Today we went to the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. Garmin is a sponsor of a temporary exhibit called “The Map as Art”, and I have been wanting to go and check it out. Inspired by the best-selling book The Map as Art, this exhibition present artworks that explore issues of mapping as well as examine the personal gesture involved in large-scale works. This is the first time I’ve been to this art museum and it’s a very nice place.
This exhibit was pretty interesting. Since I work on maps, I really enjoyed looking at the different pieces. Some I didn’t get (they were pretty abstract or as Joel said “anyone could make that”), but most were really cool. There was a giant inside-out globe (not sure how else to describe it…) that you could walk inside of. There were maps covering the entire interior. The picture from the main page is what the maps looked like in better detail. I got a picture of Joel posing inside, lol.
Here are some more pictures of the ones I liked the best!

Hey now! I just didn’t like a couple of those pieces that were just pieces of junk hanging from metal poles…all of the ones you included in the blog I liked….especially in the inside-out globe.
I know, I know. The one piece had a key hanging from it. Not hard to replicate
This looks so cool!! That was a good shot of Joel. Was he posing for that?
He did pose, lol. I asked if it was ok if I could post that picture, because he thought he looked ridiculous.
